The Data Protection (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, 2017 came into effect on 25 May 2018.
The Bailiwick's law was drafted to reflect the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This approach is designed to ensure our citizens have important rights in this digital era and to ensure the continued free flow of data to and from the Islands which is vital for our economy.

This Ordinance covers the commencement of the primary law, including amendments and transitional provisions.

These Regulations include the registration, returns and annual levy requirements for controllers and processors as well as record keeping duties.

These Regulations alter the registration fees and annual levies outlined within the consolidated version of The Data Protection (General Provisions) (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Regulations, 2018, and are effective from 1 January 2025.

This Ordinance covers processing of personal data specifically for law enforcement purposes.

These Regulations relates to cooperation and assistance by the Authority with other data protection authorities.
