Commissioner Homan signs Memorandum of Understanding with Bermuda

Published: 1 November 2024

The Office of the Data Protection Authority (ODPA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bermuda’s Privacy Office.

Partnership is a regulatory pillar of the ODPA. International cooperation expands the ODPA’s capacity to take action and amplifies the impacts of those actions as it serves the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

Establishing Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with partners drives effective collaboration, and the ODPA continues to build such strategic alliances.

Bailiwick of Guernsey Data Protection Commissioner Brent Homan signed the MoU with Commissioner Alexander White of The Office of the Privacy Commission for Bermuda at the Global Privacy Assembly’s annual conference, this year hosted by Jersey.

The ODPA also look forward to welcoming their representatives to its offices next week to share strategies and processes.

"It is an honour to establish an MoU with Commissioner White from Bermuda, a jurisdiction with which the Bailiwick of Guernsey shares much in common including as a Global Financial Services leader", said Commissioner Homan. "I look forward to the resulting collaboration, including hosting members of the Bermuda Staff this month to share compliance strategies".

The MoU sets out how the two offices will work collaboratively in several key areas, further strengthening the cooperation requirements that are contained within the data protection legislation.
