Guernsey and Isle of Man data protection authorities cement longstanding ties

Published: 1 November 2024

Bailiwick of Guernsey Data Protection Commissioner Brent Homan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Isle of Man’s Information Commissioner Dr Alexandra Delaney-Bhattacharya at the 2024 Global Privacy Assembly in Jersey.

Partnership is a regulatory pillar of the ODPA and the Isle of Man is a long-term jurisdictional ally of Guernsey, as a fellow Crown Dependency with a thriving finance industry and population facing similar issues.

International cooperation expands the ODPA’s capacity to take action and amplifies the impacts of those actions as it serves the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

In total the ODPA has signed three MoUs during the course assembly: with the Isle of Man, Bermuda and Abu Dhabi.

“These strategic alliances with trusted partners will empower us to further advance data rights” said Commissioner Homan. “These partners share many strengths with Guernsey, in particular as global financial services leaders, allowing us to leverage each other’s experience to our collective benefit “

The MoUs set out how the offices will work collaboratively in several key areas, further strengthening the cooperation requirements that are contained within the data protection legislation.
