ODPA forges closer ties with regulatory counterparts in Abu Dhabi

Published: 29 October 2024

The Office of the Data Protection Authority (ODPA) has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Abu Dhabi.

Partnership is a regulatory pillar at the ODPA. International cooperation expands the ODPA’s capacity to take action and amplifies the impacts of those actions as it serves the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

Establishing Memoranda of Understanding with partners drives effective collaboration, and the ODPA continues to build such strategic alliances, in particular with jurisdictions such as Abu Dhabi who, as with Guernsey, represent a global financial services leader.

Bailiwick of Guernsey Data Protection Commissioner Brent Homan signed the MoU with Commissioner of Data Protection at Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) Sami Mohammed on the sidelines of the Global Privacy Assembly (GPA) in Jersey which is taking place all week.

"It is an honour to establish an MoU with Commissioner Mohammed who oversees data protection in Abu Dhabi, one of the most innovative 'smart cities' in the world", said Commissioner Homan. "I look forward to future collaboration with ADGM as we both strive to advance rights in two leading global financial services jurisdictions - Guernsey and Abu Dhabi".

The MoU sets out how the two offices will work collaboratively in a number of key areas, further strengthening the cooperation requirements that are contained within the data protection legislation.
