Guernsey’s Data Protection Authority announces 2027 registration fees

The Office of the Data Protection Authority (“ODPA”) has confirmed its registration fees for 2027, and reminds organisations across the Bailiwick of their responsibility to register if they process personal information.

From 1 January 2027, the annual registration fee will be:

  • £64.90 for organisations with fewer than 50 employees
  • £2,595.82 for organisations with 50 or more employees

These updated fees reflect a 4.3% increase, in line with the annual change in the Retail Price Index excluding mortgage interest payments (RPIX) as of June 2026.

Registered charities and not-for-profit organisations are not required to pay registration fees.

Registration is a legal requirement under the Data Protection (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, 2017. Organisations that process personal information must register with the ODPA and renew their registration each year.

The annual registration window will open on 1 January 2027 and close on 28 February 2027.

Bailiwick of Guernsey Data Protection Commissioner Brent Homan said:

“The Bailiwick’s registration framework enables us to protect people’s rights and help organisations handle personal information responsibly. The ODPA provides guidance, advice and education across the Bailiwick, responds when things go wrong and takes action where necessary. Effective data protection helps build trust and supports the Bailiwick’s reputation as a responsible and trusted place to live, work and do business.”

What do registration fees pay for?

Registration fees fund the ODPA’s work as the independent regulator for data protection across the public, private and charitable sectors.

This includes:

  • helping organisations understand and meet their legal responsibilities
  • educating children, parents and the wider community about online safety and privacy
  • providing free guidance, resources and direct advice
  • supporting people with concerns about how their personal information has been used
  • responding to data breaches and helping to mitigate potential harm
  • taking action where necessary to uphold the law and protect people’s rights.
