Free family gaming & online safety event returns to Beau Sejour
We’re back! Families and young gamers in Guernsey are invited to ACE Invaders, a free gaming and online safety event taking place at Beau Sejour Leisure Centre on Saturday 24 January, from 12pm to 5pm.
The annual event aims to celebrate gaming, technology, and digital creativity, while helping children and young people explore the online world safely.
Visitors can enjoy live gaming tournaments, prizes, hands-on activities, and interactive stands. Games featured in the tournament will include Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros., with sign-ups open on the day (players are asked to register at least 20 minutes before each match).
Children can also take part in a passport challenge — collecting stamps by visiting stands and activities to enter a prize draw to win a games console and other great prizes.
ACE Invaders is all about fun, learning, and community. Alongside gaming competitions, the event promotes digital literacy, inclusion, and online safety — helping families and young people make the most of technology in a safe and positive way.
Building on the success of the previous Digital ACE events (Aspire, Create, Empower), ACE Invaders brings together local gaming groups, tech enthusiasts, and community partners for the island’s biggest celebration of gaming and digital life.
“We want to nurture the curiosity of the younger generation, so they can get the most out of this new era of online connectivity and elevated gaming experiences. However, with technology rapidly developing past the rate of regulation and protection, never has it been more important to learn how to navigate the online world with responsibility and caution,” said Ace Invaders founder, Matthew Parker, who also serves Chief Information Security Officer for Mourant which sponsors the event alongside the ODPA, States of Guernsey and FWS.
“It’s about empowering young gamers to find joy and fun online, but importantly with the confidence to do so not at their own risk. The event is specifically made to be free so anyone and everyone can access this education. This wouldn’t be possible without the loyal support from our sponsors Mourant and The States of Guernsey. Similarly, our passionate volunteers are at the heart of Ace Invader, driven by their commitment to the next generation of Guernsey’s digital community.”
Brent Homan, Bailiwick Data Protection Commissioner, explained why the ODPA is keen to support the event:
“As a gaming fan myself, I want everyone to enjoy the immersive experience of gaming safely. We had a fantastic time at the 2025 event and are looking forward to returning to share more important tips to make sure your gaming stays both fun and secure!”
The ODPA will be offering a practical workshop for parents and carers during the event with helpful tips to keep children safe online.
ACE Invaders is a community-led initiative, run entirely by volunteers.
