Panel at PL&B conference: Surveillance and privacy at major public events

Date:
Monday 1 July 2024
Time:
09:45 - 10:30
Location:
St John's College, Cambridge
Our Commissioner, Brent Homan, is on the panel at this Privacy Laws & Business Conference session, covering the following:

"As Paris prepares to host the 2024 Olympics, France is taking steps to support security through expanded public surveillance.
Are these developments mirrored as other nations stage large public events and what trends are we seeing emerge as governments look to balance public security with data protection?
Do the approaches employed make a difference, do they truly pose a risk to privacy, can we expect new technologies to aid the hunt for a happy medium? What safeguards and protections should be put in place? What is the role of the CNIL?"

PANEL:
  • Brent Homan, Commissioner, Office of the Data Protection Authority, Guernsey
  • Juliette Mazilier, Associate, Technology and Data Practice, A&O Shearman, France
  • Sophie Nerbonne, Director for economic co-regulation, CNIL, France
