Protecting your business, protecting people’s data: five key steps to take in 2021

Date:
Tuesday 2 February 2021
Time:
12:00 - 14:00
Location:
The Guernsey Chamber of Commerce

In this event the Office of the Data Protection Authority (ODPA) will detail five key steps all local businesses can take to look after data well, which helps safeguard your business’ reputation as well as protecting people’s legal rights.

The Bailiwick’s Deputy Data Protection Commissioner Rachel Masterton, and the ODPA’s COO Tim Loveridge will take you on a journey, leaving you feeling positively engaged in your legal obligations under the Bailiwick’s data protection law.

The five key steps covered will be:

  1. The Accountability Principle: how to demonstrate that you take responsibility for what you do with people’s data.
  2. Know your data: why understanding what you do with data is just part of running your business well.
  3. Tell people what you’re doing with their data: are you fulfilling this legal obligation?
  4. Data security and handling breaches: get to know what the Law says about keeping data safe, and what to do if it goes wrong.
  5. Register with ODPA: find out what the new registration requirements for 2021 mean for your business.

Rachel and Tim will then be on hand to discuss any related issues.
