About the ODPA

The Law creates the independent Data Protection Authority which is tasked with the development and implementation of the regulatory regime necessary to oversee the Law's requirements. Comprising a Chair and between four and eight Members, the Authority provides governance to the Office of the Data Protection Authority (ODPA).

The Bailiwick is part of a global data economy and many data protection issues now transcend national borders. We engage with data protection regulators across the world to keep up to date with developments and cooperate on regulatory matters.

The Authority has certain powers under The Data Protection (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law, 2017, which are detailed in Part XII and Schedule 7, and summarised below.
